Local Environmental Conditions

 

This project is located in Dunhuang, China. Dunhuang is located in Gobi desert, which has an average precipitation of 38.9mm, the annual average wind speed is 2m/s, and average annual dust days about 5~6 days. The average temperature during a year is about 9.4 degree Celsius and the DNI is about 1777 kWh/m².

Lessons Learned

·       Shouhang Dunhuang 10MW project is a fully molten salt heat exchange type solar thermal power plant.

·       The insulation of the hot and cold storage tanks is one of the key technologies, which requires complex design calculations and technical comparisons for both the tank body and the tank bottom.

·       The design of the evaporation island utilizes a forced circulation scheme on the water side, and the choice of circulation ratio is one of the key parameter.

·       The U-shape heat exchanger is a relatively safe and reliable saltwater heat exchanger, but it comes with higher costs.

·       Cleaning the mirrors is crucial for ensuring the high efficiency of the power plant, especially in the region with lots of dust.
